The Temples of Mahabharata: Hanuman Temple.

Arguably the most popular among the five temples of Mahabharata, the Hanuman temple is always crowded by pilgrims from across the country. The temple is located in Connaught Place, a short distance from our hotel in South Delhi.

The temple was first constructed by Maharaja Man Singh around the late 1500’s and was later rebuilt and modified by Maharaja Jai Singh in 1724. A unique trait of the temple is the continuous chant of the mantra, ‘’Sri Ram, Jai Ram, Jai Jai Ram” that is said to have never stopped since 1964.

The temple is also famous for its peculiar crescent moon instead of the religious ‘Om’ sign that’s found in most temples. It is believed that the crescent moon helped the temple survive the blind vandalising of Hindu temples by the Mughals as they thought it to be a shrine of Islam beliefs.
